KA-SSEBY-C CONCERT $545
+ LESSON $39 value
Solid Spruce Top Striped Ebony Series in concert size.
Spruce is known for its clarity, dynamic range, and response while ebony provides a strong bass presence and responsive highs for a well-rounded sound profile.
Concert Size
Ukuleles come in many different shapes and sizes, this can sometimes be daunting for newcomers trying to pick out the right size for them. The Concert size is the Goldilocks size, larger than Soprano but smaller than a Tenor. The next step up from the soprano in size. The concert’s scale is about an inch longer, the neck is a bit wider, and overall it’s a little heavier than the soprano.
Larger Hands and Fingers enjoy the extra room.
The extra length allows for more frets with wider spacing between them. The concert size is great for players of any skill or experience level, but maybe more comfortable for those with a bit larger hands and fingers.
Fuller Tone and louder too.
Being a bit larger in size, the concert has a fuller sound and warmer tone with more mid-range than the soprano. The concert also projects better than the soprano, making the volume a bit louder
SOLID WOOD UKULELE: The Spruce and Ebony Combination
Solid wood is, in essence, one solid piece of wood that makes up the entire soundboard of the instrument. It is the most resonant and pure form of tonewood and requires much more finesse to install properly. However the wood is intended to sound with all its unique tones, it will be most apparent in a solid wood instrument. It is somewhat delicate in comparison to laminate wood but is highly sought after.
Spruce has been one of the most common tonewoods on acoustic guitars for decades and it’s no surprise it has found its way into the hearts of uke players as well. There are many variances in Spruce wood strains but it is usually favoured for its well-rounded properties that suit a wide range of playing styles. The wood is very stiff and relatively light which makes it great for full-on strumming and quite responsive to delicate fingerpicking. The sound is bright, full, and all-around probably familiar to most. It has a very recognizable look that can best be described as a light blonde colour that yellows with age.
Ebony colouration is dark brown to black, with brown streaks. Tonally, ebony is powerful, clear, and has a dark tonality adding power to bass response. Clear, responsive highs and a slightly scooped midrange. A slightly longer period of playing time to open up as the wood dries and the tone really blossoms. Strong and hard, ebony is a great choice for backs and sides.
