WHY EBONY?
Ebony has been a long-term staple for instrument makers as a material for fingerboards and bridges due to its toughness and ringing tone.

TONE?
This dense hardwood is typically clear and loud with considerable overtones and dynamic range. It has a strong bass and lower mids, clear highs, and a slightly scooped midrange like rosewood. Like koa, it often takes a little while for the tone to open up and become richer.

LOOKS

It ranges in colour from jet black to dark brown and often contains lighter streaks.

In days gone by the colour was thought to be an indication of quality but this has been disproven in recent times by many guitar makers. This has led to a vastly improved sustainability outcome for this precious resource

The Kala Ebony line has a deep brown body with reddish-brown striping, finished in satin for a natural look. The light-coloured Maple rosette and binding create a nice contrast to the Ebony body.
